Move your way to improved health with therapeutic exercise classes curated and led by Rachael.

Three class levels

  • Restoration

Appropriate for most levels, gentle, calming, slow, guided movement. Really useful for low energy days during cancer treatments or stressful life events. Can be used as a starting level and to build from. Can be used as a recovery or stretch option to compliment your more challenging workouts.

  • Restoration & Strengthen

Incorporates the relaxing movements of the Restoration level with gradual strengthening exercises, provides options for different body needs. Slower paced and provides options for to ensure good technique with strengthening exercises. This is ideal to progress from the Restoration level and also to help with building strength following cancer treatments or injury.

  • Social Level: Restoration & Strengthen

Same restorative and strengthening concepts with greater challenge and greater use of props. This class started with a group of friends who all had recovered from injuries and wanted to keep active and optimise their health. This is suitable if you are painfree but have areas of your health or body you need support to improve. This is suitable for people who know their body, have moved through the levels and are ready for a good workout top to toe.

 FAQs

  • No. My area of interest is working with women with cancer to help their recovery from treatments. However, I welcome people who are interested in getting or keeping moving, who want therapeutic exercise classes in a gradual yet progressive format. There are some physical requirements to being able to do the classes and therefore checking with your medical professional is always recommended prior to starting the classes. There are three levels to suit your fitness or skill level and your aims for session.

  • This is individual specific especially if you haven’t been exercising much or if you have been recovering from illness, injury, medical treatments or surgeries. It is always recommended to get advice from your medical professional or book in with me for a one-on-one session to determine the most appropriate programme.

For those who are starting with minimal activity levels remember that reducing the amount of time sitting and getting a little bit more of movement in your day will add up over time and the restoration level classes are suited to this phase. And any movement is going to be more beneficial than no movement and worthwhile recognising the changes and achievements as you progress gradually. The restoration classes are a gentle and kind way of moving your body and also because of their relaxation components are effective at calming the body and mind.

For reference and for something to aim towards, a general guideline for healthy lifestyles for adults is to have completed 150 minutes total of moderate intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity per week or a combination. Again, remembering that any movement is better than no movement and health benefits can start from even just several short walks daily and building up tolerance from there. To provide even greater health benefits you can work towards doing 300 minutes per week. Strength training is also recommended for all major muscle groups at least twice a week. It is also useful to add in balance activities and stretching into an exercise regime.

The strength and restoration and the social classes sit under the strength training classification and many of the classes include stretching and balance exercises. Therefore, finding aerobic exercise to do each week is important for healthy lifestyles. Options include walking, swimming, biking and jogging.

  • It is important to get the healthcare that you need. Physiotherapy is part of this for injury, illness, cancer rehabilitation and more so please do continue to seek support for your specific needs. I designed a lot of classes to help support clients to do their rehabilitation exercises in an enjoyable and relaxing way where they could sit back and exercise with me (albeit on a screen). It is recommended to seek medical professional advice to determine if these classes will be complimentary to your rehabilitation plan.

  • The following can be useful items for most sessions – Towel or Mat for lying on and a towel or pillow for positioning support.

Some classes may use props such as a chair, light hand weights, theraband, magic circle (pilates ring), soft pilates ball or foam roller. These are optional and many classes offer alternatives.

My suggestion is to start the classes with what you have now and then you can discover what you would like to add into your workouts.

If you do want to purchase items you can follow these links:
